FASHION PROJECTS

Mood board

As I way of obtaining primary research at lunch time I went to the supermakerket nearest to the college to take pictures of meat. The pictures of meat packaged in plastic inspired to create a texture which resembles the one of meat being pressed againts plastic.

I experimented with the concept of creating a meat-like texture by using paint and glue (bottom right). This experiment did not look realistic enough. I added more glue to the mixture and less paint, this experiment which you can see in detail below came out a lot better, it appears to be more realistic.

Once I knew which mixture was most effective at conveing the meat like texture I made it on a bigger scale to make the garment which would be made out of half of the 'plastic meat-like texture' and the other half of a white shiffon. I chose to use these contrasting material as I wanted the vest to have the element of juxtaposition. I also chose the white delicate fabric because it is reminicent of a white wedding dress which is symbolic of innocence and purity and the meat like texture is symbolic of killing animals for human consuption. I wanted to place the meat-like texture I created next to the white fabric for them to contrast and the plastic to 'pop'. The human eye notices materials and textures better if these are opposites, eg: concrete and plants.

While the paint and the glue were driying I added gold and read sewign thread to create a hair-like texture, reminicent of the animals hair when slaughtered.
