1 DAY PRODUCTION

I was approached to be the producer for a short film by a previous film teacher. My role was of the producer and as we are a small team I would also be the one in charge of costumes and finding props and dressing locations. The short began pre production in May 2017. Unfortunately we had to pospone the production as two of the cast members were unable to commit to the project due to personal cicumstances.

Paul and I have talked about working on '1 Day' in the future as it is a short that we want to make.

Despite '1 Day' not going into production I still learnt from the experience and I have work that I will undoubtely use in the future. I carried out research for the set and costumes and I was in charge of communicating and finding the cast.

Casting

As part of my education I took A level Acting. I knew some of the other performing art students from the full time courses. I decided to contact some of them for the casting of the film.

Costume research

I began visualising the costumes for each character the times that I read the script. I assembled a series of pictures that I thought would be appropriate for the characters. The director wrote the character biographies which were useful to me to use as a refence for the inspiration of the costumes. I wanted to best represent the persona of the characters through their clothing.

Character: Kane

Costumes

Kane and Ellen go for a walk in the woodlands, therefore one of his outfits needs to be warm clothing like a jacket or a coat. The other location were we see Kane is in the house, I thought he should wear very laid back confortable clothes for this scene.

Character: The Interrogator

Props

Locations

Heard's garage, Devon. Will be used for the interrogation scene. This is a location which Paul and I really like the look of because it is gritty, the walls have paint peeling off, mold and stains as it is an old garage, the floor is also ideal becasue it is unkept and unwashed like the entire room. I personally really like the marks the mold has made on the wall. We planned to find a metal table to place in the middle of the room.

Initially this room was not going to be used. I proposed to the director to use this room as it has a dirty, cold and gritty feel to it. The walls are mouldy and the room has a ‘horrible’ feel, that is why I think it has a really great feel and atmosphere for where someone would be kept in for interrogation.

Titles

I experimented with creating some fonts and motifs for the films title sequence.

I talked to Harry (camera operator) about my idea of having an animated title sequence, he has experience in animation as he's done an animation degree.

I went ahead and experimented with creating a font and a 'look' for said sequence.

The font at the bottom of this page is my favourite one, I think it fits in well with the sci-fi genre of the film.
